Maria Laumark is a Danish Theatre-maker & Facilitator with a passion for devising, physical theatre and international collaborations. She is the Artistic Director of the award-winning Katla Theatre Company which recently produced Mary & Mietek, which was written by Maria. It is based on real love letters from WW2 and its parallel to Brexit with the struggles of love across borders.
Maria is trained in devising and physical theatre, and therefore always has a collaborative and movement focus when writing and creating new work. Passionate about inclusive practices, Maria is proud to be the Creative Associate at Zoo Co, which recently did Perfect Show for Rachel at the Barbican (co-winner of the Offies Access award).
Maria has also worked with companies such as Royal Court Theatre, Cut the Cord, The Old Vic, Omnibus, and travelled to Denmark, Ecuador, Poland and Croatia last year for international projects.

This workshop programme is part of a series titled Make theatre with … and each programme is designed in conversation with an industry professional with the aim to offer different perspectives and approaches to making theatre – no programme is ever the same!
the programme
telling the untold: making theatre with voices from the past
What stories inspire us, and whose perspective are they told through?
Over the course of six practical workshops, you’ll explore different approaches to making theatre based on events and voices from the past in ways that feel daring and playful, with collaboration at the centre of the creative process.
You’ll have the chance to explore how to dramatise them in new, exciting ways while still staying true to the story. Through an approach rooted in devising, and mixing writing techniques with physical theatre, you’ll explore how to use text and movement to give these narratives new life.
The programme will conclude with a public sharing on Thursday 15 June (the seventh session), which will be open to an invited audience of friends and family plus company associates.
