What We Do

We stage international plays in translation – work that begins its life elsewhere and finds new resonance here. Whether it’s a full production, a one-night-only reading, or a quietly radical rehearsal room experiment, our focus is always on the encounter. That might be across languages, cultures, or perspectives – but always between people.

We love sharing the work – not just the final production, but the process behind it. Our practice is rooted in care, playfulness, and collaboration. And everything we do, we do in dialogue: with our partners, with artists, and with audiences.

productions

We’ve staged 18 new English translations since 2010 – from lyrical monologues to socially and politically engaged work – including UK and world premieres by playwrights from Germany, Denmark, Brazil, Romania, and beyond. Our productions often take place in non-traditional spaces, inviting audiences into close conversation with the work – and offering new ways to experience stories across borders.

readings & showcases

We regularly host readings, sharings, and showcases as a way to share work with audiences and the wider industry. Whether it’s a first outing for a new translation, a showcase from our mentorship programme, or a standalone commission, these events create space for dialogue – inviting others into the conversation around the play, the process, and the politics of language.

collaboration projects & experiments

Over the years, we’ve developed a range of one-off performances and experimental works – from adaptation and composition projects to early-stage sharings and interdisciplinary collaborations. Translation and cross-cultural exchange are always at the core. Many of these projects live in our archive, but they continue to inform how we work, think, and evolve. Projects like Making Theatre in Exile or The Strindberg Project continue to shape how we approach translation and cross-cultural collaboration.

spaces & encounters

We’ve staged work in all kinds of places – from derelict buildings and community halls to art galleries, shopfronts, and shadowy basements (some more waterproof than others). We’re drawn to unconventional spaces that invite closeness, experimentation, and a different kind of attention.

We also collaborate with partner venues like Arcola Theatre, Omnibus Theatre, and Jermyn Street Theatre to reach wider audiences and connect with the industry. And our home base at the Rose Lipman Building remains a constant: a rehearsal room, creative playground, our East London HQ – and the heart of our day-to-day work.

Wherever we perform, we aim to start conversations. Our productions are often accompanied by post-show talks, creative workshops, and tailored engagement programmes. Whether it’s local audiences or emerging practitioners, we see theatre as a shared space for reflection, learning, and exchange.

We usually send out one newsletter a month – unless we’re in the thick of a project, in which case you might hear from us a little more often. It’s a personal update from Camila and Trine, with stories, news, and what’s inspiring us right now.

You can also find us on X, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. While we do share updates there, social media isn’t always our top priority – the newsletter is where we keep things most consistent and personal.
