our anti-racism commitment

We are determined to actively dismantle systemic racism and promote antiracist practices within our organisation, community and industry. Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Policy serves as the foundation for our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and we understand the urgency and the need for specific actions to address the historical and ongoing racial injustices that exist.

Learning & Awareness:
We commit to continuously educating ourselves and increasing our awareness of the complexities of racism, privilege and oppression. In our pursuit of antiracism, we will actively engage with and learn from initiatives such as Inc Arts Unlock, Anti-racism Touring Rider, The What If Experiment, and other relevant resources. We recognize that combating racism requires ongoing learning, unlearning and challenging our own biases. Through participation in workshops, training and discussions, we will deepen our understanding of how racism manifests in our society and its profound impact on marginalised communities.

Intersectionality & Inclusivity:
We understand that racism intersects with other forms of discrimination, such as sexism, ableism, homophobia and transphobia. We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment that acknowledges and respects the intersecting identities and experiences of all individuals. We will actively work to amplify the voices and perspectives of marginalised communities within our organisation and artistic productions.

Representation & Empowerment:
We are committed to increasing representation and empowering individuals from racially marginalised communities. This includes diversifying our leadership, artistic teams, performers, and partners. We will actively seek collaborations with artists and organisations that promote racial equity and showcase the rich diversity of voices and stories.

Anti-Bias Recruitment & Audition Practices:
We will implement rigorous anti-bias practices in our recruitment and audition processes. This includes challenging implicit biases, fostering diverse selection committees, and using blind or anonymised processes whenever possible. We will actively create opportunities for marginalised individuals to thrive within our organisation, ensuring equal access and fair consideration.

Allyship & Solidarity:
We believe that allyship and solidarity are crucial in dismantling racism. We commit to actively supporting and amplifying the voices of racial justice movements and organisations. We will utilise our platform to address systemic racism and promote positive change within the theatre community and society at large.

Continuous Evaluation & Accountability:
We understand that the journey towards antiracism requires ongoing evaluation and accountability. We will regularly assess our progress, listen to feedback from our community, and make necessary adjustments to our practices and policies. We encourage open dialogue and invite our community to hold us accountable for upholding our antiracist commitments.

We recognise that this commitment statement marks the initial step in our dedication to antiracism. Aligned with our comprehensive EDI Policy, we will persist in taking tangible actions, engaging in continuous learning and fostering an inclusive environment. Together, we strive to dismantle racism and cultivate a future for Foreign Affairs, our community and our industry that is more equitable, inclusive, and diverse.
